Here is a tale of a sushi chef on a journey to master his craft.
This project was an amazing opportunity to get super creative with the sound design. Throughout the short, we continuously shift between a realistic and abstract sound world, in response to the mysterious techniques of our sushi tutor. We found a great deal of inspiration in the fantastically absurd sound design of anime. The music shifts from a traditional Japanese style that supports his impressive, effortless and precise abilities to a Morricone-esque theme revealing the emotional undercurrents of his journey.
This project won us a best sound design award from the British Animation Film Festival in 2020.
